East Mental Health provides 30-day crisis counseling in the form of Crisis Intervention. These services are available in Roanoke and Rocky Mount. Services include and individualized plan to provide individuals with support and counseling to manage a crisis situation and prevent exacerbation of the mental health condition and alleviate risk of removal from the individual's community of choice. The program provides support 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Crisis intervention services are mental health care services designed to provide assistance to individuals experiencing acute mental health dysfunction requiring immediate clinical attention.
The objectives are:
- To prevent exacerbation of a condition
- To prevent injury to the recipient or others; and
- To provide treatment in the least restrictive setting
» Face to face assessment to determine needs and develop an individualized plan
» Assistance with medication management based on specific needs of the individual
» Nursing services as needed
» Individualized counseling provided in the community in which the individual lives
» Equine assisted psychotherapy as appropriate
» Peer support
» Home visits to assist in recovery planning and stabilization
» Service coordination with other providers
» Coordination with family members, other providers and /or community resources as appropriate and necessary to resolve the crisis
» Transition planning to assist with long-term recovery and crisis prevention
Characteristics and needs of the population served
Crisis intervention services are provided following a marked reduction in the recipient’s psychiatric, adaptive, or behavioral functioning or an extreme increase in personal distress.
